SIR - The latest fantastic rise of gas and electric prices is said to be because our gas is bought from Russia, etc, at very high prices.

Gas, like most fuel is a finite object, and will at some time run out. So I wonder if our Government gives any thought to this time.

In my youth, pre-war, all towns manufactured and stored their own gas in larger gasometers.

OK, you needed coal. So what? This can now be used with very little pollution.

No-one except the miners liked Arthur Scargill, but closing down the coal industry was the last century's greatest major disaster, except for the war periods.

Coal is used and needed to make gas and electricity. Maybe this should be considered.
