SIR - Keith Sivyer (T&A, January 25) starts off agreeing with Keith Thomson about CO2 emissions and then ends up saying we should stop relying on oil and revert to coal.

Well that won't impress Mr Thomson, who went over the top in his Envirowatch (T&A, January 23) admonishing divorcees and those who cremate their deceased.

If this is the way of the future we may as well just lie down and let it happen.

The EU is imposing CO2 emissions reduction, which will mean even further taxes on energy but the UK government has said the revenue from such taxes would not be ring-fenced for spending on renewable sources of energy.

The EU said nothing about our decision on nuclear power, which would mean no increases were necessary. More stealth tax!
