SIR - I would just like to correct the maternity hospital recollections of Mrs Rushworth (T&A, January 24).
Although her grand-daughter who is 34 was born at the new BRI maternity wing, I can assure her that the unit at St Luke's was still very much in use.
My daughter was born there in October, 1978, by caesarean section, and although I was discharged after ten days, my daughter remained there for considerably longer in the special care baby unit which was also still fully operational.
