SIR - It's been announced that council tax will rise by four per cent but services could be cut.

Does this make sense to anyone at ground level?

Pensioners, the jobless, workers on low wages, will have more to pay out with less in the pocket.

So how can anybody's life improve and be better than the previous year?

With a rise in council tax the payer expects more and better services, but this could actually mean more debt and job losses. It doesn't look good for the future.

The cost of living is going up all the time but not the wages in line with inflation.

This means workers will have to work longer hours while pensioners and the unemployed will find it hard to save and spend on proper food, clothes, etc.
