SIR - I hope one of your readers can help me.
Family legend has it that my great-grandad Charles Egerton was one of the first victims of an automobile hit and run accident in the country.
Charles lived in the North-east - Darlington, Stockton and Stillington - and I have been searching for details of the accident for months.
I have found nothing, but have discovered three of my mum's long-lost cousins, and one of them tells me that the accident actually took place while Charles was visiting the Saddington family in Bradford.
From that, I have found that the death of a Charles Egerton was registered in Bradford in September, 1917.
Does anyone remember or have any information on the accident, or maybe a local historian may have come across details?
I would be very grateful for any help.
