SIR - We were told Park at the Heart would cost Bradford Council £6m and BCR were confident the Big Lottery would pay the other £24m of the reported £30m cost.

However, the Big Lottery declined to cough up and our Council's Executive took it upon themselves to be responsible for the scheme's implementation.

Recent Council documents tell us that "to achieve the full economic outcomes" the scheme will require the demolition of the old police station and the relocation of the perfectly adequate magistrates court additional to the construction of the Park at the Heart with its Mirror Pool.

The cost is now quoted as a staggering £58m and experience dictates this will increase to at least £70m.

As the Council refers to "economic outcomes", it is presumed that, in accordance with sound business practice, they have done a thorough actuarial assessment on the time scale and extent of the return on such a massive investment.

In view of the Big Lottery not wishing to be involved, the strong opposition in the Council's own R&A Committee and to justify what many Bradfordians consider a foolhardy scheme, is it not incumbent on the Council to publish the outcome of such an assessment?
