SIR - Matthew Elliott, chief executive of the Taxpayers' Alliance, has stated that it is wrong that farm subsidies have "become a mechanism for transferring taxpayers' money from ordinary families to city millionaires".
He says: "The CAP was set up to ensure that poorer farmers had a minimum standard of living, but now the system is being abused by wealthy individuals buying tracts of land to claim subsidies."
The CAP is just one more unacceptable face' of the EU.
