SIR - John Hall (T&A, December 13) thinks anyone who speaks up for the rights of the English is a "little Englander", a phrase I feel used so many times incorrectly, as in this case.

He says that it is okay for the "little Scots" to keep to themselves assets found in their region of the UK but it is not all right for the English (Welsh and Irish too) to give a bigger share per capita, to the Scots.

I seem to remember that even the Shetlanders said the oil was theirs and not mainland Scotland's.

In any event, surely North Sea oil revenues go into national revenue and if Scotland gets more of it per capita than we do, how on earth are we "little Englanders" getting more than our share of it?
