SIR - I read in the papers and see on the news that the police are whinging about not getting their pay rise all at once.

They don't deserve what they get now for the work they don't do.

I would think that half the population would be highly satisfied to get their wage. It might be suggested they be sent to Iraq on a soldier's wage where they would have to work for a living.

Phil Boase (T&A, December 13) wrote about their latest blunders.

Let them have the right to strike - the only people who will notice a difference would be the motorists, and also it would give them some idea what miners felt like.
