SIR - Family and friends of the late Dr Urmila Gupta have petitioned Bradford Council calling for Green Lane, Manningham, to be renamed after her (T&A, December 6).
A spokesman for the Council confirmed the petition had been received and would be considered.
Before making any decision, are our city fathers aware that the first free school dinners in England were provided on Green Lane and that the primary school there is this year celebrating the centenary of the event?
Dr Gupta's brother, Jitendra Gupta, the man behind the bid, says he has the backing of MPs and ward councillors.
What are the names of these people who attained their position via the ballot box?
The public have a right to know because Green Lane is synonymous with Bradford's history and reference to it can be found in many established encyclopaedias.
