SIR - Your article (T&A, December 5) did not touch on the issue that The Priestley theatre is not disabled-accessible and as such will have difficulty continuing to function under present disability legislation, or raising money from the Lottery.

The situation is no fault of The Priestley. After the fire, insurers denied them the possibility of improving disabled access, and the theatre has no space adjacent to the building for a disabled entrance.

The Council should recognise the years of volunteer commitment, and the theatre's place in Bradford culture, by gifting The Priestley half of the width of Chapel Street, making it one way, and helping to fund a new disabled-accessible entrance.

It's about time the Council made a serious commitment to the arts.
