SIR - Having read the article by Marc Meneuad (T&A, November 30) in which he states that it is illegal to release birds reared in captivity into the wild, I was under the impression the RSPB have released peregrines, sparrow hawks, goshawks, and hen harriers (but no eagle owls) in recent years.
This is the main reason why the songbird population is on the decline.
