SIR - As an admirer of Barry Sheene, right, and a British Superbike champion myself, I would like to encourage your readers to take part in the 2008 Barry Sheene Memorial Motorcycle Challenge in aid of CLIC Sargent, the UK's leading children's cancer charity.

This unique challenge will give you the opportunity to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Sheene's legendary career, whilst taking in some of the finest racing circuits in Europe.

Bikers will ride more than 1,400 miles across France and Spain and have two options to take part, May 16 to 24 or June 2 to 10, 2008.

The May group will enjoy the thrill of the Le Mans Grand Prix and the June group the Catalunya Grand Prix.

Every day in the UK, ten children and young people are diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia. The trauma and anxiety felt by families is immeasurable. CLIC Sargent provides care for them and their families from the moment of diagnosis for as long as it's needed, in hospital and at home.

Call 0845 124 1188 or visit: www.clicsargent.org.uk/ challenges and follow in the tyre tracks of one of the UK's most iconic biking heroes and help children with cancer.
