SIR - First Gordon Brown orders all public buildings in the UK to fly the union flag, then Scots Nationalist leader Alex Salmond says "no way" not up here, as far as Scotland is concerned the union is dead and buried.

Sadly Gordon doesn't hear because he is in Washington DC telling George Bush how wonderful he is, while awaiting his next orders.

Despite Brown's demand and a campaign by a national newspaper, there seems to be fewer union flags than ever.

More of us seem to be accepting that the union flag is about imperialism, colonialism, slavery, the exploitation of the British working class, the stealing of land, mass murder of indigenous peoples and illegal wars.

Meanwhile, the word "patriotism" has had young Britons jumping in trenches fully prepared to kill and be killed and buried with the flag on their coffins.
