SIR - In reply to Douglas Hartley (T&A, July 31), Bradford's City Park will be a stunning public space, featuring a mirror pool centrepiece.

The water source will be a borehole which can be carefully controlled and does not pose a risk from flooding.

The mirror pool will be a flexible and unique feature, with fountains and walkways, and can be drained to hold concerts and events.

The park will be a vibrant space enjoyed by all and a detailed maintenance programme will ensure it is kept clean and safe.

An extensive public consultation was held in 2003 to gain the views and opinions of local people about the Bradford Masterplan, including plans for the Valley Neighbourhood.

As a result, the proposed "wetlands" area is no longer part of plans for The Valley.

The area, which includes Bradford University and Bradford College, will become a focus for the city's creative economy and for knowledge businesses.

Already £90m of investment has been brought to the area, through the Listerhills Urban Village, providing student accommodation, apartments, leisure facilities and offices.

Bradford's residents have played a vital role in shaping the city and we look forward to their continued involvement as the city progresses.
