SIR - The lovingly-made Spitfire stolen from Baildon craftsman Alan Bowman (T&A, July 26) was probably sold to feed the drug or drink habit of some low-life for much less than it was worth.
When you ask: "Do we respect other people's property?", the answer is an ever-increasing minority have no respect for themselves, let alone other people or their property.
However, I contend the judiciary is to blame for administering such paltry sentences when criminals are apprehended.
They would do well to remember what Elizabeth Fry, the English Quaker prison reformer, once said. "Punishment is not for revenge but to lessen crime and reform the criminal."
