Spanish choice SIR - I am writing in reply to M Byrne's letter about smoking (T&A, July 4).
I agree that no-one is above the law, but for the so-called government to ban smoking in pubs and clubs is a very daft idea. The fact they are still allowed to smoke in Parliament is beyond a joke to me.
As to his comment about civil rights, everybody is entitled to them. What the Government should have done is let the people of this so-called great England vote on a smoking ban.
It should have been banned only in pubs that sell food, or they should do what they do in Spain and have smoking pubs and non-smoking pubs.
Then it's up to the individual as to whether they go into them.
