SIR - David Rhodes (T&A, May 19) reminded me of when I used to work for Bradford Council as a plumber.

We were based at Odsal Depot, a real motley crew of about 40 men, plumbers, joiners, brickies, plasterers and of course labourers and drivers, plus two foreman, office staff, and a superintendent.

We maintained houses in Bradford South, from Queensbury to Wyke, and all stops in between.

This particular day I was given a job to repair a toilet and gutters at this house, I had the materials to repair the toilet, but needed the driver to bring me a ladder and new gutters, so I went back to the depot at dinner time to sort everything out with the driver.

I went back to the job and waited, and waited, no wagon, so I moved on to my other jobs.

The next morning I was hauled in front of the Super' why was I hanging around doing nothing, someone had been clocking me, and rang the housing office.

Why Mr Rhodes were you watching the activities of three men for an hour! Why did you feel it necessary to write to the "T&A, instead of dobbing them in, which you have indirectly , and why on earth would large companies "de-camp to countries abroad.
