SIR - I am interested to learn that Bradford is looking at building another City Academy.
As a parent with three young children, my major educational concern for them is when they leave the primary school system.
It has been sad to see a lot of the secondary schools in Bradford decline in standards over the last 20 years and this can be attributed to the liberal do-gooders removing the setting of pupils based on academic talent and also removing words like "failure" from the school vocabulary, as it may upset the children.
Achievement has to be rewarded and failure worked upon. Every child in Bradford has the right to a decent education, no matter what their surroundings or upbringing, and I can only hope that with the introduction of another City Academy standards improve.
Also the wider attitudes of the people running education need to change. We must strive to do the best we can for all our children and not dumb down the education we provide to inhibit the advancement of the more academically gifted, creating the need for grammar schools.
