SIR - Alec Suchi (T&A, May 22) once again questions my motives.

Scientists are like anyone else, i.e. employees. As such they must produce the facts their paymasters demand.

Not all scientists are in agreement on the cause of global warming.

I agree there is a possibility we may be contributing to our present climate change, but am sceptical because the Government, while telling us there is overwhelming proof, do nothing about it.

Measures to cut our emissions would have to be harsh.

If the Government were to ban the ownership and use of all private cars, and ban all aircraft flights (except emergency services), in order to cut emissions, then I would gladly give up my small car, and any plans to holiday abroad because I would know they were serious. The fact that they do nothing, yet allow more cars on the road every week, and allow air travel to spiral while increasing taxes on these increased emissions is bound to make people like myself sceptical.

If Mr Suchi truly believes we are responsible, I suggest he lobbies Government ministers to do something about it, then sceptics like myself will become believers.
