SIR - It was interesting to read your article (T&A, May 17) on the Tories' u-turn on grammar schools. How many u-turns is that now? The New Tories no longer believe in the principle of low taxes, they are no longer interested in fighting the UK's corner against the EU, in fact they'd be as happy as Larry if we were integrated in to the super-state tomorrow.
I'm sure most Tory supporters must be wondering where their party has gone. They have a leader who would be more at home leading the Green Party and their policies are now virtually identical to those of New Labour.
As David Cameron closed the door on grammar schools, he pledged his support for Tony Blair's city academies. What a surprise!
Personally I have no objection to grammar schools as long as they are open to all children, regardless of background.
Isn't it time New Labour and the Tories considered merging as a party?
