THE ongoing police crackdown on drivers – launched as a result of this newspaper’s Stop The Danger Drivers campaign – is starting to show some significant results.
That is very good news for all law-abiding motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and other road users in the district.
Operation Steerside, which is targeting identified recognised hotspots for bad driving, has snared hundreds of motorists for various road offences in its first two weeks.
And the involvement of the DVLA in the crackdown has seen more than 400 untaxed vehicles clamped for not paying road tax – another very welcome move for those concerned about driving standards.
The T&A launched its campaign in response to the growing anger over the standard of driving in the Bradford district and a number of specific incidents, and we published a ten-point charter of actions, as well as calling for more proactive policing.
420 CARS CLAMPED IN DANGER DRIVER CRACKDOWN IN BRADFORD
It is very pleasing to see that the police have responded by setting up this operation, and hopefully those drivers who make the roads dangerous for everybody else will start to realise that they are in real danger of action being taken against them.
The reaction when our campaign was launched clearly showed that the vast majority of people in the area are fed up of a minority of menace motorists who are blighting our roads, and that is something that the police are now addressing.
Let us hope this operation is the start of an ongoing and concerted effort by the whole community, not just the police, to eradicate dangerous driving habits from our streets.
