SIR - In response to the letter (T&A, May 15), I would like to apologise for the Big Screen not being muted on May 11, 2007, during the Bradford City Fire Disaster Memorial Service.
This was due to human error and we will make sure this does not happen again.
I will now ensure the Big Screen manager is issued with the civic timetable well in advance of any similar events in the future.
We are now working with the BBC to install an emergency mute switch and a remote volume control that can be accessed via the internet.
The Council is aware that the Big Screen has proved a popular addition to the city centre but is also fully aware that there are occasions when silence is appropriate.
Again, I apologise to those who were offended.
Mark Suggitt, Bradford Council's Head of Museums, Galleries and Heritage, City Hall, Bradford
