SIR - On Tuesday afternoon, while walking my dog in Myrtle Park, I was met by youths carrying alcohol on their way to the bottom meadow for their annual Year 11 leaving do.
There were about 50 children swearing, drinking and involved in loutish behaviour. At 4pm I rang the park ranger service while I was still in the park to inform them of under-age drinking and their behaviour as it was a nice day and lots of young children were out.
I was informed that as long as they weren't doing any damage it didn't matter, so I stressed that these 16-year-olds were drinking in a public place, only to be told it was a police matter and they expected it every year!
The police turned up for ten minutes, had a chat with the kids and left.
I think it is ridiculous that the government, police forces and local councils go on about binge drinking and under-age drinking but they are letting this happen every year.
The next morning the park was covered in broken bottles, rubbish and empty cans, resembling a scene from the morning after Party in the Park. This must stop.
