SIR - In response to John Pennington's views (T&A, In My View, May 3) I would like to air my views.

Bradford Council should take note and talk to senior successful business men who have a proven record within the community. I could name quite a few, like Jack Tordoff, Panesar, Mumtaz, John Pennington, Ken Morrison and Prof David Rhodes, who all are currently running businesses in Bradford.

I feel that these business men should form a committee to get Bradford moving forward. All the Council seems to do is have meetings with no direct outcome. Action is needed this year before more businesses close down and reopen in Leeds.

Bradford is dying slowly but surely. All the building work being undertaken at the moment are houses (which we need) but no thought has been put into how these people are being entertained, with no recreation centres being built.

What we need are leisure facilities, parks and new shopping centres, not hotels and student accommodation.

John Pennington with his forward thinking should be made leader of the Council and then I am sure things would get done, not just talked about.

Bradford is looking more and more like a Third World city day by day.
