SIR - I note that having been rejected, at last, by the electorate, Mr Lewthwaite has turned to the role of jobbing theologian!
He cites in support the BNP's in-house Lord Haw-Haw who is neither recognised by any church in the UK nor ordained by any church in the UK. Readers may draw their own conclusions on his theological credibility.
The Christian Church, of many different denominations, has never placed national identity above what we would call the Kingdom of God. Yes, we'll be happy to display national flags on national days, but the real point of Christianity is an acknowledgment that God has created all of humankind and loves it all equally.
That is a flat contradiction of the philosophy espoused by the BNP and it is why all Christian churches reject what they stand for.
If Mr Lewthwaite is such an ardent supporter of Christianity in these islands I suggest he comes along to Great Horton Methodist Church one Sunday morning. The very mixed multi-racial and multi-national congregation will give him a gracious and Christian welcome.
Dare he actually discover the face of the modern Church?
Councillor the Rev Paul Flowers (Labour, Great Horton) Superintendent Minister, Bradford - Great Horton Methodist Circuit, City Hall, Bradford
