SIR - The cancellation of Alsop's Lake and replacement with the Mirror Pool means private profit development will encroach further into the leisure zone and the waterlogged parade ground will be flanked by glass and concrete cuboid structures The pool is a mechanical contraption which will not work and, being a constant drain on the city's money, will sooner rather than later have its plug pulled.

Even if the Lottery do cough up the required £23m from the increased cost of £30m, the further inevitable increases of at least another £10m will have to be met from the rates.

The Park' will not be finished, until 2011/12 and will be followed by the building of the adjacent office blocks. The environs of the City Hall will be a second central building site for the next five to seven years.

Would it not be better to forget the pool and use the original lake site for a proper park with trees, lawns and flowers, leaving the Magistrates Court where it is?

If you are fed up with artists' impressions which are mere figments of Bradford Centre Regeneration's imagination and want a park as soon as possible, write to Coun Mallinson at City Hall and tell him.
