SIR - Regarding bags for life', why are so many people fashion victims? A similar bag can be made by anyone with basic sewing skills and, with individual embellishment, the bag will be unique.
A letter from M Byrne (T&A, May 2) about the Sainsbury's non-recycleable shopping bag suggested re-using the many carrier bags already issued. I am sure many of us already do but why not use one's own shopping bags when shopping?
Many years ago Sainsbury's introduced a payment of 1p for every shopping bag used in place of one of their carrier bags. The money could then be donated to charity.
To this day we take our own shopping bags to shop every week, it has become a habit. As a result of this our consumption of plastic carriers is greatly reduced.
