SIR – Today a party of us visited Bradford to reconnect with the whole of our buildings’ heritage rather than be put off by the often tawdry ground-floor premises.
We were still discussing what had happened to the Talbot Hotel hound when we got up to Northgate.
There on a plinth above a derelict former discount shop, is a statue of a dalmatian. It is not the “Talbot” dog which had wandered, for that was an entirely different breed.
Does anyone know the origin or purpose of this tribute to a spotted dog?
Incidentally it is worth buying a pint just to see the magnificent original ceiling of the former Yorkshire Penny Bank on North Parade.
The building has been tastefully restored, refurbished and brought back to use as the City Gent bar. The beer is not bad either.
