SIR – Your mention of the Mind the Gap theatre company (June 11) reminds me of the true story of what happened to Nina Lewis, nee Israelstam, daughter of the onetime Rabbi of the Jewish orthodox Synagogue, a few years ago.
She was going to enter a tube train at Baker Street Station in London where one platform is on a tight bend and there are regular announcements of “Mind the Gap”.
She had put one foot on the coach when the doors started to close, she lost her footing and fell, fortunately, upright, into the gap. At once bystanders pulled her up and she was only grazed. She still lives in St John’s Wood and will be 93 in August.
