SIR – I echo the sentiments of Ms Neale (T&A, May 26) regarding the bus services and who we can turn to.
Recently the 846/847 services from Shipley via Wrose to Bradford were altered to the 646/647. The route was also changed and instead of serving the Valley Road and Forster Square retail parks by going via Valley Road, it just continues on Canal Road, Hamme Strasse and Manor Row.
There is a designated bus stop (number 45025279) on Canal Road going into Bradford, clearly showing 646/647/633 but a minority of drivers are refusing to stop there, saying it is too difficult to pull out again (this stop is the nearest to the retail parks with a pedestrian crossing over the very busy Canal Road to get there).
If a driver finds it too hard pull out, what is he/she doing driving a bus for a living?
Instead, passengers are having to go to Manor Row and walk back – not ideal for the elderly.
In an era when Bradford is trying to attract footfall to its retail outlets, why on earth has Bradford First stopped going via Valley Road inconveniencing postal/office/shop workers and shoppers who don’t drive?
It is about time the bus operators worked in conjunction with the council and paying public and offered a service to all main areas.
Like Ms Neale I have approached Bradford First but received no response.
Let’s hope there’s a taxi rank at Westfield when it opens!
