SIR – I was sad to hear of the death of Errol Brown, former lead singer of Hot Chocolate.
Only the other day I was listening to their reggae version of John Lennon’s ‘Give peace a chance’ Lennon raved about their version and signed them to the Beatles Apple Publishing Company where they wrote songs for other artists including Mary Hopkin.
Hot Chocolate also accompanied John Lennon at his ‘peace for Christmas’ UNICEF benefit show.
Hot Chocolate went on to be only one of three acts, the others were Elvis Presley and Diana Ross, to have had hits in the British charts in every year of the 1970s.
Errol Brown’s talent and distinctive voice will be sadly missed.
