SIR - How sad to see that the once loved English institution, the Fish ‘n’ Chip shop has now all but disappeared as an option for a late supper.
The best that anyone can now hope for are pizza, kebabs, fried chicken or an Indian/Chinese coupled with those horrible, tasteless ‘fries’.
I remember the delights of walking home after the odd pint or two, with a bag of chips or a good old fish butty, lathered in salt and vinegar…..heaven.
These days, come seven o`clock, the humble chippie is a thing of the past.
Perhaps the demise of a lot of pubs is the very reason, coupled with the fact that most people can ill afford a night out these days and tend to stock up with drinks from the supermarket. Also the fact that it’s far easier to pick up the phone and dial a supper.
Call me old fashioned but I would love to be able to walk to the pub, sink a few pints and then walk home with an open parcel of deep fried delight.
