SIR - It is good that Bradford is seeking to renew the past with the new cinema/restaurant complex on the approximate site of the former ABC Ritz Cinema.
This appears to have a sound commercial basis in that Bradford’s social enhancement will have the spur of concomitant private profitability.
The contrast with the three Media Centre cinemas could sound their death knell, which might not be such a disadvantage.
The massive subsidies of public money which are directed towards the minority who actually patronise the Media Centre could be used to better and more accountable advantage elsewhere in Bradford.
Perhaps the extension and refurbishment of the St George’s Hall into a world-class standard art gallery would show that we have pride and faith in ourselves and be a home for the millions of pounds worth of pictures which are hidden away in cellars.
Cartwright Hall could then fulfil its increasing role of ethnic culture.
