SIR – Re: “Yorkshire Water Battle for Control”, (T&A Business, April 28).
I’m afraid the owners of our water utility are only concerned with how much they can make out of the business.
As reported, the sale follows comments made by Johnson Cox the Regulator, that he was “open to consolidation in the sector” and that this was expected to trigger mergers and sales.
Johnson Cox always had the interests of investors at heart since he was head at Yorkshire then Anglian Water. (Poacher turned...) Notably, the Government of Singapore’s part-ownership of Yorkshire Water and its parent is expected to remain.
It is as happy with public ownership as British Governments have been since 2008 (so long as they are foreign – what madness!).
Welsh Water is run by a de facto trust and all profits are reinvested for the public good. It operates perfectly well under regulation.
