SIR – I read with disgust your story about disgraceful anti-social behaviour occurring in the grounds of my local church and recreation ground (Idle), which as a local resident have witnessed myself.
I also noted the comments of the three ward councillors who rightly so condemned this type of unacceptable action.
However, what they failed to add was up to two years ago these sites, along with many more, were patrolled by the council’s mobile park ranger service (introduced by a Labour Council in the early 80s) who operated a dawn-till-dusk rota system, quelling much of this type of behaviour.
This service was removed after another massive slash of Bradford Council’s budget by its THEIR coalition government.
With similar restraints on the local police force, sadly this type of ‘vandalism’ is on the increase, with nobody around to eradicate it.
If councillors are going to comment please tell the full story.
