Sir – May I ask all Tories – candidates and voters – a question as I am not sure if I have got it right? The Tory big society means a fair society, like we will give the richest one per cent a five per cent tax cut, averaging out at some £50,000 a year, a figure that most people would love to earn a year, never mind tax back, then allowing multi-national companies those who fund the Tory party to avoid tax altogether, then closing the Remploy factories, freezing benefits, and cutting pensioners' heating allowance.
Then raise VAT to 20%, then introducing the bedroom tax, zero-hour contracts, giving the nurses a reluctant one per cent pay rise, cutting defence so even NATO is are concerned, building aircraft carriers with no planes to fly on them, and cutting police numbers that even chief constables are giving out warnings. Is that what is meant by the big society?
If not I am sure there are enough Tories out there to put me right.
