SIR – I am not aware of any prospective parliamentary candidates promising to tackle the growing problem of poor driving practices in West Bradford and the city generally.
It is especially important as the volume of traffic increases, and of course the roads remain basically as before, that drivers are ever more careful and aware of other road users and pedestrians.
Sadly this is not happening. One has only to observe the traffic at most road junctions to witness examples of appalling manoeuvres not to mention missing headlamps at night.
Surely the members of parliament must either bring in compulsory re-assessment of practical driving and theory, say every five years before a further driving licence can be granted, or campaign for reasonable observation and enforcement of driving practices and knowledge.
Better education in the theory of driving and the exercise of courtesy by drivers would help but if standards could be improved everyone would benefit and the number of accidents, especially serious injury would be reduced Edward Shanks, Haslingden Drive, Bradford
