SIR - I was able to attend two gatherings at which the candidates for the Bradford West Parliamentary seat were invited to address those present to explain their reason to seek our vote and represent the constituents in Parliament.

The first was at Carlisle Business Centre and was not well organised and the chairperson was somewhat out of her depth.

I was somewhat staggered at most of the comments of the right honourable George Galloway who, for whatever reason, chose to let his emotion rule his considerable ability as a reasoned debater. Especially as of course he represents the “Respect” party.

The second gathering was at Bradford Cathedral where there was a totally different atmosphere.

The Dean stated the aims of the gathering, treated everybody respectfully and on occasion firmly but fairly.

As a result each of the six candidates was able to express themselves clearly and we got a definite and informative idea of the various candidates' views and attitudes in relation to the forthcoming parliamentary election.
