SIR – Brian Holmans (T&A Letters, April 9) asks me to explain to him (and by extension all the brains in the Labour Party and their advisors in the Civil Service) how to regulate financial services.
Excuse me, but that’s what they get paid hundreds of millions of pounds to do! It’s not good enough for Labour to claim that proper regulation is not possible. Perhaps they should look at how the Germans do it, or the French, or the Singaporeans, or the Dutch, or....
Labour’s Ed Balls certainly didn’t have to call for a “light touch” to regulation. The threat of a clout with a big stick might have been more appropriate.
