SIR – I note a number of your correspondents are using letters to do their campaigning but unfortunately some of their suppositions are incorrect.
Clive Richardson writes about eight lights on Hill Top Road, Thornton, which have not been repaired for 16 weeks.
In fact these old lights are fed by overhead copper wiring which has been stolen several times. It was thus decided to replace them with new columns to run the cables underground. This is a major job and naturally takes some time to complete.
He also calls for me to purchase a new cherry picker and hire in extra help to cope with the backlog of repairs and I have already done both of these but as readers are aware the council has ever decreasing funds and we must be prudent with new expenditure such as buying vehicles.
Cllr Val Slater, Bradford Council, c/o City Hall, Bradford
