SIR – I read the story regarding Ukip and Hope Not Hate (T&A March 31) with utter incredulity, because when you read the article, you find that there isn’t a story there at all.

In fact it’s another example of Ukip’s Jason Smith looking for a scapegoat for a failed campaign before anyone has even voted! Still, with Ukip polling at their lowest for many, many months, it’s entirely predictable that the party that likes to blame everyone else and never offer anything positive is behaving as they always have done.

The very fact that the Electoral Commission have to write to Mr Smith explaining to him how things work speaks volumes.
