SIR – On December 3, 2014, I reported to the Council eight streetlights not working on Hill Top Road, Thornton, an area where people have to walk in the road because there are no pavements.
Sixteen weeks later they’re still not working. We don’t want words of apology from Councillor Val Slater, (T&A March 23), but we want action. The Council has an under-spend of about two and a half million pounds this year, to add to reserves of over £30 million. Cllr Slater receives over £25,000 a year as a Special Responsibility Allowance.
It’s time for her to show some responsibility and support street-lighting workers and residents by hiring or buying another cherry-picker.
Clive Richardson, Conservative candidate, Bronte Old Road, Thornton
