SIR - Mr Chapman's (T&A March 31) verbatim regurgitation of Tory press propaganda is becoming somewhat tiresome.

I wonder if he realises that when doing so, he is simply promoting the views and aspirations of the four billionaires that own 80 per cent of the UK media.

They are of course. Rupert Murdoch, Viscount Rothermere, Richard Desmond and the Barclay Brothers. Without being prompted, can anyone guess which party these four charmers support – and why? Quite so.

Mr Chapman goes on to repeat the eternal Tory fairytale that Gordon Brown borrowed billions to support the work-shy. Gordon Brown did borrow billions mid-way through the Labour administration to build up the health and education services which had been all but destroyed after 18 years of Tory mis-rule (In one square mile of Bradford, there are four new schools and one huge new health centre).

Following the financial calamity of 2007/8, Gordon Brown did also borrow many billions of pounds to bail out the UK banks and thus protect Mr Chapman’s pension and savings.

As my economics lecturer would always say ‘follow the money to find the truth’. How true.

And for Mr Chapman’s future enlightenment I would simply add “question more”.
