SIR – YOU couldn’t make it up, could you? Bradford is holding an Oktoberfest. Guess when? The clue is in the title – August. This event is to showcase businesses and products from Germany, including music from bands specially flown in from Bavaria.
All this at a time when traders in the Oastler Centre are worried about all the attention being given to the Westfield Centre.
Why doesn’t Bradford put on a ‘Bradfest’? This could demonstrate the wide range of food and drink produced in Britain. Cheeses, sausages, pies and pasties, puddings and other famous British delicacies along with the best beers in the world and home produced wines.
The ‘Bradfest’ could last all year round and be available at all our market stalls. And the entrance would be free.
We even have the best bands in the world to boot. The way to regenerate Bradford is to showcase our own local traders and the best of local produce, not to bring in traders and goods from abroad. Let us put Bradford first for once.
