SIR – The much vaunted new rules on illegal campsites laid down by Bradford Council in conjunction with the police (T&A, March 24) are a load of waffle. They will do nothing to address this continuing problem caused by travellers parking illegally.
Our council should be standing up for the people of Bradford, who are sick and tired of these illegal acts and their accompanying costs, which never seem to fall on the culprits.
The new rules do nothing to ensure that illegal camps are removed immediately as the council, together with the police, currently have the ability to do.
There is no reason why such transgressors should not be served at once with a Section 62 Notice, and then be moved on immediately. The people of this district deserve nothing less. The priority should be for all illegal campsites to be moved as soon as they appear, but these ridiculous new rules will do nothing of the sort. We really need to make our city a no-go area for those who are unwilling to conform to the standards of society.
Will this Labour council ever deal with this matter in a firm way for the benefit of its ratepayers, rather than bending over backwards for others?
