SIR – The news that David Cameron (pictured) blocked Nick Clegg taking part in a TV debate with Ed Miliband because the PM didn’t want to be the only absentee, is highly revealing.

Many people will see this as yet another example of high-handedness and selfish manipulation that they perceive in certain politicians.

It seems (from reports) Mr Cameron doesn’t want to go into a 1:1 debate with Mr Miliband, because the PM calculates he may have more to lose than gain, from doing so. However, he doesn’t want to be seen as running away from meeting an opponent. So, ensuring he comes out of the whole debates controversy with some semblance of dignity and integrity is boosted by his coalition partner also not taking part in a 1:1 debate with the Leader of the Opposition.

Yet, surely this says something about David Cameron’s character? He has just presided over the governance of our country for five years and carried out some fairly controversial policies in the process. The public are crying out for transparency and honesty.

They are sick and tired of politicians avoiding answering questions and manipulating situations for their own benefit. And if we can’t have answers and open accountability from a PM at election time-then when?
