SIR – This budget reminds me of me dear old grandma, talking of jam tomorrow. In Mr Osborne’s case it’s funny how the jam will only come in the year 2019/20, the date of the next general election.
There was nowt about the NHS, schools, armed forces, etc. and now we have the respected Institute for Fiscal Studies demanding to know where the deep cuts are coming from to pay for this jam.
In fact having read both the Labour and Tory supporting newspapers, and watched the BBC, this budget reminded me of me last arithmetic test at school – there were so many mind-boggling numbers in it.
What springs to mind is the phrase used by Benjamin Disraeli (a rare case of a decent Tory) about ‘lies, damned lies and statistics’.
