SIR – I see that Kirklees Council has now joined several other councils in Yorkshire that are either paying, or are intending to introduce, a “Living Wage” for all their staff.
The Living Wage rate is set at a significantly higher level – £7.85 per hour – than the legal minimum wage. As an employer based in Bradford who has paid at least the Living Wage for many years, I can attest to the benefits it brings to any organisation in terms of commitment, productivity and stability amongst the team.
I urge Bradford Council to adopt the Living Wage for all their employees and would urge everyone to question their candidates in the forthcoming council elections as to their position on the introduction of the Living Wage.
