SIR - Regarding the hundreds of missing sex offenders (T&A, March 10).
The figure provided by UK Police forces alarmed me, but West Yorkshire Police are saying they need more time to respond and this made me even more concerned. Maybe what they really meant was “there are so many sex offenders missing in our area we dare not say” or “we have no idea how many are missing “ or “can we have a bit more time to find a couple of them first so the figures don’t look so bad”. I hope I’m wrong. These statistics send a very bad message to people convicted of sex crimes. As a result of the freedom of information response, I do hope that the forces do more to monitor sex offenders. People want to feel safe.
